The Flying X Ranch is home to many beautiful species; some year round and some only briefly and occassionally. Come here to find out what animals and birds you are likely to see when you visit the ranch. Although, they aren't critters, you will find out more about the ranch wildflowers here also.

Birding Update - July 2011

The American Redstart seen near the well-known Teepee Rings and the Virginia Warbler seen in Tower Canyon are the only birds of these species reported on eBird to have been seen in Albany Co. this year.

Birding Update - June 2011

Our 13th year of recording bird sightings on the Flying X Ranch is well underway.

In 2010, three new birds were added to our list: Solitary Sandpiper, Red-headed Woodpecker and Hermit Thrush. This brought the total number of species for FXR to 150.

There have been several rare sightings so far this year: Black-crowned Rosy Finch, American Tree Sparrow, Snowy Egret, Sandhill Crane, and White-faced Ibis. Our total species count is now up to 155.

This year, Let's enjoy adding even more bird species to our list.

Winter to Spring According to the Birds

A couple recent bird sightings on the ranch mark the passing of the seasons.

Early Feb: We have a new bird for the ranch list - American Tree Sparrow. They are this far south only in winter. The last time I looked on e-birds, (a national website that tracks bird sightings) it was the only one listed in Albany County this year - perhaps because with the weather not too many people have been out looking. There were some near Casper, but that was it for WY.

March 2: Spring is on its way. Two Mountain Bluebirds were seen checking out nesting sites in the mobile home area.

All FXR partners, guests and staff are encouraged to record any birds they have identified on the FXR. Since the ranch is more populated in the summer, most of the birds that have been identified are summer or resident birds. Here’s what you need to know to participate or to just become familiar with the bird species sighted on the FXR.

Wildlife Photo Galleries

New photo galleries have been added for pictures taken of birds and wildlife on the ranch.

Partners are encouraged to send their wildlife and landscape photos to share. Please email them to the Gallery Editor: galleryeditor@myfxr.com or the Webmaster: webmaster@myfxr.com.

Thanks to the partners who have provided their photos to get these galleries started; Lowell Wade and Jack Hoff, and to Margaret Arp who has offered to identify the species of any bird photos submitted.
