Welcome to the Wild West!

The West isn't as wild as it once was, but if you love the outdoors this is the place to come. The Wild West is where you will find information about hunting, fishing, shooting and other activities. This is where you can find the rules and procedures for applying to hunt or what lakes you can catch and keep or where you'll find the biggest fish to release for another day.

Click on the "Outdoors" submenu for more about hunting and fishing rules and regulations and the activities of the wildlife committee.

Tipi Living on the Flying X

The tipi was definitely the property of the woman who made it. Several women at the ranch enjoyed the story I told that if a woman became dissatisfied with the man who lived with her, all she had to do was stack his belongings on the ground outside the tipi, and he’d better find a different place to sleep that night!

Marking the Teepee Rings

Early spring is the perfect time to see the teepee rings – before they are concealed by meadow grasses. In September 2010 Roger and Jane Holtorf were joined by friends JoAnn and Dave Carlson in an expedition to locate two teepee sites on the FXR. Among other talents, JoAnn is an accomplished American Indian artifact collector.

GPS Coordinates: Finding Your Way

If you have a GPS, we need your help.

We are compiling a library of GPS coordinates for various locations of interest around the ranch to post here on the website. We will present them in map form on the site and also have downloadable files by topic that you can import into your own GPS.

Any GPS data that is useful to you, is probably useful to others, so send whatever you have. We hope to have coordinates for: trailheads and intersections, gates (interior and egress), picnic and camping spots, historic landmarks, scenic views or special interest locations, etc. We will also try to have breadcrumbs for full trails. We can also attach photos to the point on the map, so if you have pictures from your GPS waypoints that will be especially helpful.

Help us help you by sending your GPS files of the ranch to webmaster@myfxr.com. If you have coordinates in your GPS, but don't know how to retrieve the files, then just ask for help in your email and we'll get it done together. Please include a textual description of the data so we know what we are looking at. Also, include any photos if you have taken some that correspond to the waypoints.

Watch the website for the first map and files.
