The livery of course is where to find a horse. This main page will have news about the horses on the ranch, how to reserve a ranch horse or a guided ride and current rates. You can reserve a horse for the regular rides as follows:

Click on the "Guided Ride" submenu to reserve a place on a guided ride around the ranch.

Click on the "Private Ride" submenu to reserve a ranch or program horse for a private ride.

Horse Herd Update - October 2011

During the month of October the horse department is going to be doing an extensive health check on the herd before the cold weather sets in. During this month the ranch will have Dr. Unrein out to check teeth and do floating. If you would like your horse to be checked, please let Gina know as soon as possible so that she may schedule with the vet. Also at this time wrangler Chuck will be offering sheath cleaning on any horse for a nominal fee of five dollars per horse to cover supplies.

Marrow Lake Pasture

You will probably notice some new fencing at the foot of Cottonwood road and near the arena. Morrow Lake pasture has been added to our new close-in grazing options (Arena 1 and Arena 2) for multiple benefits. It provides additional close-in pasture for horses, which has become increasingly important due to the number of horses kept in for Partner use during the week. It also helps keep fire danger down by keeping the grass down in that pasture abutting our common area. Finally, that valuable grass will not go to waste.

When you manage a large herd of horses and most of them are long-term residents as on the Flying X, occasionally you will have to part with one for what you know will be the last time. It is not our practice to mention all of these passings, but even more rarely, we will have to say goodbye to a very special companion.

Procedure for Transporting Horses onto Ranch Property During the EHV-1 Outbreak June 2011

The FXR EHV-1 Management Team met again on July 1. Based upon the decision of the Wyoming Livestock Board (WLSB) to rescind any special entry requirements for horses coming into Wyoming, coupled with other states in the region eliminating or reducing any special requirements related to the EHV-1 outbreak, the Flying X Ranch is suspending any special transportation and/or entry requirements for horses coming on to the ranch, effective immediately, and until further notice.

ALL STANDARD RULES and regulations for the transportation and entry of horses on to the Flying X Ranch remain in effect (current Coggins, vaccinations, etc.). Please be sure to be aware of these rules and regulations by referring to the Ranch website or by contacting the ranch office.

Thanks to everyone for their cooperation as we continue to work through the EHV-1 situation.

Strangles and the Flying X Ranch

For the horse owners amongst us strangles is no stranger. Strangles is a highly contagious and serious infection in horses caused by the bacterium, streptococcus equi. Horses of all ages are susceptible, but the disease is most common in animals less than 5 years.

It is with a very heavy heart that we share the sad news of the passing of one of our finest and noble steeds, Harley the big red horse. Harley was one of our more senior fellows being 26 years old. He died on the land that gave him food, forage and fun for most of his life.
