The menu titles are fun, but how do I know what they really mean?

We have tried to make the menu names fun, but you can see a modern English translation by hovering the mouse pointer over the old west name. For example: The "Ranch House" hover text says, "Activities News, Information, Downloads, and Sign-ups"

Some articles have a little icon that says, "Sticky" next to the title. What does that mean?

The "Sticky" icon next to the name of an article indicates that the article will stay at the top of the list of articles in that section. This keeps important information current longer so that it doesn't get pushed down the list and missed.

With news and information being updated regularly, how do I make sure I know about it while it is still news? How do I subscribe to the FXR news?

There are two main ways of subscribing to the news on the website.

First: If you are familiar with RSS, you can subscribe to the RSS feed from the site. If you are unfamiliar with RSS, look at the FAQ titled: "What is RSS?"

There is a block titled "My FXR via RSS" that appears on the right side of the home page and your account information page. Click on it to be prompted to setup an RSS feed to your reader.

Second: You may subscribe to virtually every type of content on the site using "Subscriptions".

Whenever you view the detail of an article, event, image, etc. you should see "Subscribe to:..." at the bottom of the page with several links following it. Click on the ones that interest you. You may subscribe to content based on its type: For example, you may subscribe to all Articles, or by keywords that identify it called "tags": For example, you may subscribe to everything that is tagged with the word "Horses".

Once you have subscribed to a tag or content type, you will be emailed updates whenever something with that identifier is updated on the site.

If you sign up for too much and you are getting more than you want, look at the FAQ titled: "How do I manage my subscriptions?"

There is a block on the home page called "FXR VIA RSS". What is RSS?

If you aren't familiar with RSS, this may be your first compelling reason to learn more about it. Very briefly, RSS is basically a service (called a feed) that sends updates to a "reader" that you choose. Microsoft Outlook, Google, Yahoo, etc. all have RSS readers. If you subscribe to RSS, whenever a news portion of the site is updated, you will receive a message with the title and a link to the article.

I would like to download a copy of an article or event in a form that I can save, print or email. How can I do that?

At the bottom of each article and event is a link with a little icon of a page that has a red triangle on it (the Adobe Acrobat symbol). The link is called "PDF version." Click this link to create a PDF version of the article or event that you can open or save for printing or emailing later. (Note: This feature takes a few seconds or more depending on the size of the article and attached images.)

I would like to email an article or event from the website to a friend or two. How do I send more than just a link to the page?

At the bottom of each article and event is a link with a little envelope icon called "Send to a friend." Click this link to open a form that makes it easy to send the article or event to your friends via email. Enter your email address in the so you have a copy of exactly what was sent. The form allows you to enter an introduction and send the full article, only the teaser (the short intro to each article), or just a link. You will be returned to the page you were on after you click the Send e-mail button.

I would like to print an article or event from the website, but it doesn't print well. How do I get a good printout?

At the bottom of each article and event is a link with a little printer icon called "Printer-Friendly version." Click this link to open a new browser window with the article or event displayed in a format that prints “friendlier.”

My top menu is spread out over two rows and there isn't enough room for both rows. How do I fix it?

There are a couple possible sources for this problem that are both local issues on your computer: your choice of browser, and local settings for "text size" in your browser or desktop.

Since Internet Explorer is the primary browser for our visitors (about 75% of all visitors), we test the website using Internet Explorer. It is possible for other browsers to have problems rendering the website that we won't catch.

The layout of the website is dynamically rendered so it usually will layout appropriately for your browser settings. However, it cannot adjust to all types of local settings. If you have a "text size" setting in your browser larger than "Normal" you will have this problem. Unfortunately, there is no way for us to make that local setting work for you and have a website that is agreeable to everyone who has not changed that setting. Here is how to fix it.
1) Click on the "View" menu of your browser window.
2) Select "Text Size"
3) Select "Normal"

If you need a larger text size, in most browsers you can zoom or enlarge the entire view without having the problems by emlarging only the text. In Internet explorer the zoom feature is in the bottom right hand corner of the browser. In Google Chrom it is in the upper right corner. In both cases it shows a magnifying glass with a ##% that shows the level of zoom.

Also Note: You can select the Site Map on the right side menu to get a complete listing of all landing pages on the website in a form that should work with any browser. You can bookmark that page as your favorite so you always come to a menu that works for you.

If you are having a problem with the menus and neither of these descriptions match your browser settings, please contact the webmaster.

I am really interested in buying into the ranch. How do I buy a partnership?

Ranch partnerships often come available from the partners who currently own them. These are sold many different ways including; online auctions, sales, and marketing, newspaper classifieds, real estate listings, etc. The ranch itself does not have any partnerships for sale.

The ranch board, management and staff do not participate in the advertising of partnerships for sale. The seller(s) of a partnership unit retain 100% of the purchase price - the Ranch has no vested interest in the sale of a partnership unit.

All transfers of shares require board approval. All assessments, and money owed, tied to the partnership unit being sold must be paid before any transfer of the unit will be approved. Prospective partners, before being accepted by the board, will be asked questions related to their expectations of the Flying X Ranch.

Please go to the Land Office for all the documentation you need to understand the partnership transfer process.

The ranch looks like a great place to visit. Can I come visit?

The ranch is a private recreational location exclusive to its partners and their guests. If you wish to visit, you must either be a member of a family designated by the partner to use the ranch or a guest of one. If you are not listed on the family use designation or a guest of one, please do not come to the ranch hoping to find someone to show you around. Make arrangements before you arrive.

The ranch looks like a great place to live. Can I live there all year?

No. The ranch is a great place to be much of the year, but it is primarily a seasonal recreation location. The winters can be quite harsh and many facilities and conveniences are not available during those months.
However, there are a few permanent full-time staff that live on the ranch year round.

I see these things called "Tags" everywhere. What are they?

This site uses "Tags" to identify content as being of certain types. Any piece of content may have multiple tags. These tags make it easy for you to find the content that interests you most.

For example: A kid's ride that includes lunch may be tagged: "Kids," "Rides" and "Meal". So if you were looking for something for kids to do, you would find this activity.

How do they work, then?

They are used in many ways to filter content on the site.

For example: The words next to "Tags" at the bottom of an article or event are links to a page that shows all content that has that tag. Let's assume you are reading an article that has these Tags: "Public", "Website", and "Horses"

"Public" - indicates that this is viewable by the public (The "Partner" tag is the contrary to the "Public" tag.)

"Website" - indicates that this article contains information about the website.

"Horses" - indicates that this article contains information about horese.

Try clicking on a Tag in the next article you read to see what results you get on the page that pops up next.

Note: Some tags like the "Public" or "Partner" tags apply to a lot of content and therefore aren't usually going to be especially helpful on their own. In some places you can select multiple tags to refine your seach.
