FXR Bird Watching Update 2010
All FXR partners, guests and staff are encouraged to record any birds they have identified on the FXR. Since the ranch is more populated in the summer, most of the birds that have been identified are summer or resident birds. Here’s what you need to know to participate or to just become familiar with the bird species sighted on the FXR.
Since June of 1999, a Bird Checklist has been posted at the FXR ranch house. A copy of the 2010 FXR Bird Sightings Log is located on the bulletin board at the ranch and in the Critters page of the FXR website.
In the 11 years that FXR bird sightings have been recorded, a total of 147 species have been identified. The table below indicates the number of species identified each year and how many of these species were new additions to the FXR Checklist.

The Wyoming Bird Checklist published by the Wyoming Game and Fish Department indicates that there are about 30 more species that are common in SE Wyoming in the summer. Examples are Eared Grebe, Swainson's Hawk, Franklin's Gull, Calliope Hummingbird, Sage Sparrow and Hermit Thrush.
The 12th year of recording FXR bird sightings is underway. A new bird has already been added to the 2010 list; a Red-headed Woodpecker. This bird is rarely seen in SE Wyoming.
