Update (09-12-2010): Work is still progressing on Cottonwood Road. The Road is open all the time with some delays on weekdays to be expected as the crew continues to put road surface and culverts in. Work with the loader on Cottonwood should be done on September 17, which may include some work at Blake Lake as well.

Update (08-28-2010): Cottonwood Canyon Road will be open Labor Day weekend!
The road is open for the weekend of Aug. 28-29 and will be closed again during the week Aug. 30 thru Sept. 3. It will be re-opened Sept. 4 permanently with some temporary closures during the following weeks.

Update (08-21-2010): Cottonwood Road is still behind schedule somewhat due to the flash flood on the main road, but efforts to make the road passable have reached the 60% mark. Culverts and one other French drain will still have to be put in, but these items can be done if need be after the rented loader is gone. The primary use of the loader is to rebuild the road bed, which Dean Robb is accomplishing very well. We are working toward having a passable road by Labor Day, but the weather must cooperate. We also continue to run into areas that are still boggy even this late in the year. Continue to watch for updates.

Update (08-13-2010): The ranch's road grader broke down this week while working the road from Hwy 34. Parts to repair it have been ordered, but have to be shipped regular-ground due to size and weight so the grader will be out of commission possibly until Monday, August 23. Work is progressing well with the rest of the heavy equipment and labor, though. The Cottonwood crew has installed a French drain at the spring near Snotta Lake and have completed the major dirt work to the cross-over. There is a lot of road to go, yet, but progress is good when the rain isn't creating new problems elsewhere on the ranch.

Update (08-06-2010): Work on Cottonwood was started with the French drain at Snotta Lake. Heavy rain on Tuesday (Aug 3) caused a rain day on Cottonwood but more importantly the main road into ranch sustained heavy damage. Since the main road into the ranch is a higher priority, the road crew has been working on major repairs there.

Update (07-26-2010): The ranch management proposal including cost estimates has been added to the document library listed below. Minutes of the July 17 board meeting have also been approved and are posted in the Board Meetings - 2010 document library here: http://www.myfxr.com/content/board-meetings-2010.

Watch this article for updates as the project progresses.

A plan for the repair and improvement of Cottonwood Canyon Road was proposed by ranch management at the July 17 board meeting. There was extended discussion with board directors and much valuable and constructive input provided by partners present at the meeting. Approval and posting of the minutes from board meetings is usually conducted at the following regular board session, but this process will be expedited so this information is available for partner review sooner.
Since much of the repairs and the main source of the damage (a large spring in the road) are located on BLM, execution of the plan is contingent upon an agreement from BLM on what work is permissible.
The plan is available from the office and is downloadable from Shareholder documents posted in the Library on this website (http://www.myfxr.com/content/cottonwood-canyon-road-reconstruction-plan-...). Since this document includes information about ranch finances, it is available only to partners registered on the website.

Note: Cottonwood Canyon Road remains closed to large vehicles, but is open to ATV, horseback, and hiking traffic. Updates on permissible road use will be made as they are available.
